The Automotive Supply Chain Congress provides the opportunity for leading industry players, both domestic and international, to meet, network and debate the issues and challenges which the automotive supply chain industry faces now and in the future. All sectors of the industry will be represented, from tier suppliers and vehicle manufacturers to logistics service providers and aftermarket specialists.
The outlook for automotive markets across Europe and beyond is uncertain as austerity measures impact consumer confidence. Overcapacity is still a major challenge for many OEMs. A leading industry analyst forecasts how production levels will be affected in the short to medium term.
A panel of OEM and tier supplier Chief Executives discusses the issues facing today's automotive industry both at home and abroad. How concerning is the capacity issue? Are current procurement and supply chain strategies serving their purpose? How do we take action to improve and make fundamental changes to the supply chain in order to facilitate all parties?
Is single sourcing placing undue pressure on the tier suppliers? How do we drive asset renewal when finance is so difficult to come by? In an era of ever-increasing costs of raw materials and transportation, how do we mitigate these pressures without increasing the cost to the consumer in a period of global over-capacity?
As a response to popular request, we are, for the first time at one of our events, including interactive workshops in the programme. The workshops, which will be led by industry experts, will address three broad areas, the inbound supply chain, finished vehicle distribution and the aftermarket. We have established the essential components of each of these sectors and will discuss how best to create fundamental change to drive the industry forward. For too long we have accepted the status quo. There are alternatives, and it is these which the workshops will seek to identify. What is the actual and ideal balance between service parts availability, logistics service provider performance, and dealer management of customer expectations in meeting the after-market challenge? How do we ensure optimal utilisation of assets in the finished vehicle distribution sector and is there a better way to ensure continuity of the supply of inbound parts? Discussion will be free-ranging and uninhibited by the constraints of a formal panel session.
